This course introduces learners to research writing and thinking that are valued in college and beyond. The Composition II course at WGU should be seen as a foundational course designed to help undergraduate students build fundamental skills for ongoing development in writing and research.
The Composition II course should be completed in sequence following Composition I, in order to continue building the student’s writing and research proficiency. This Composition II course provides appropriate writing and research experience to prepare the student for advanced writing within their discipline and, more specifically, completing their capstone. This course will prepare the student for competency in the elements of research, articulation of response, academic authenticity, and the appropriate and responsible documentation of source materials.
Composition II supports peer review, though it may be completed asynchronously. Instruction and exercises in grammar, mechanics, research documentation, and style are paired with each module so that writers can practice these skills as necessary.
Course Competencies
- Research: The graduate evaluates the quality, credibility, and relevance of evidence in order to integrate evidence into a final research paper.
- Writing Process: The graduate applies steps of the writing process appropriately to improve quality of writing.
- Final Report: The graduate composes an argumentative research paper.
